Over the duration of the World War 2 British troops mainly travelled into Europe by Warships unless part of the RAF airforce. Each war ship could carry over a 10,000 troops, their destination was to the derelict boarders of France to a town called Normandy. Most of Europes coastal towns had been taken underseige by the Germans due to the gaurding of the English Channel. Once Britain realised Hitler's plan British troops managed to force their way into Europe avoiding the obvious ports along the French coast due to Europe's falling. The British forces had large forces in play to defeat the Germans by land, being supported by the powerful Navy forces on sea. British troops responsibilities were to protect England from invasion by sea stopping germans getting across the English Channel. What Britain were not so preared for, were the air-rades which commenced.

Germany began dropping bombs from enemy planes on Britain’s major cities, such as: London, Nowrich, Great Yarmouth, Dover and Kingston Upon Hull.

Also targeted by sea were British warships in the English channel these were being sunk with submarines. Germany began bombing British coastal town’s defenses due to their location in plain sight of the English Channel, these were easy targets for the Germans to target causing great difficulties for the British troops to stop them entering into Europe. Hitler himself felt these attacks would make air raids easier for the Germans  to gain control of the Southern skies to pursue and invade London by both air and sea.

With forceful attack upon England under way the Commonwealth Counties started to unite and suppport the British troops. (Commonwealth Countries were countries previously part of the British Empire such as Australia and Canada) Hitler targeted channel ports and shipping towns, this was his plan to establish command of the British coastal port of Dover especially, this was a direct route of travel for the brit's to travel across sea to Europe. Ready waiting on the coastal town of Calais Hitler commanded fully functionals mechacanical guns to bombard the Dover area and destroy ships in the English Channel trying to come across into France.

Hitlers plan was to also gain control of the skies in southern England.  His ideas were to finally send in the Nazi army by land to conquer the capital once and for all. Due to Hitler’s plans British troops marched further south to ports such as Dartmouth, Plymouth, Portsmouth and Southampton where they could onboard ships and sneak into Europe on the coast of France where our allied countries America and Canada helped the Overuled countries regain, repell and surround Germany.

Here you can see America, Canada and British troops working as Allies and the routes they took to leave England and gain entry in to Europe through the coast of Normandy.

British government was frightened due to threat of air attacks on how the air bombers could bring death ad destructions to civilians. The (RAF) was built up strong many people believed that the bombers were unstoppable and would kill thousands from dropping gas bombs as well as explosives. throughout the war London was air raided 126 times, Liverpool 60 times, Birmingham 36 times and Coventry 21 times. The worst affected was Coventry due to it being the Centre of aircraft manufacturers.

During battle of Britain, Hitler had tried to conquer England by getting the German air forces to attack and destroy British airfields, aircraft factories and stop channel shipping these towns were all major attacks. It was surprising how much of the fighting during the war was in the air. From this both England and Germany took to the sky’s created the great blackouts all over, especially in London. Hitler’s plan was to destroy the Royal Air Force (RAF) and pave the way for operation Sea lion invading England by sea already targeting coastal towns such as Plymouth and Southampton.

By 15th September 1940 Germany had conquered Poland, Norway, Denmark, The Low Countries and France. England were the only nation not to have over turned trying to stop Germany advancing through Europe.
