World Maps

During World War 2 map reading was an essential skill for all troops British and German. From to the forever changing of course and route plottings, due to the affects of war, British and German troops both needed to have clear knowledge of main and offside roads. Maps were studied very closely by both British and Nazi soldiers of the opposing countries.

Not only world maps were used, maps of Europe in closer detail were used to identify coastal towns and major cities where aircrafts and manifacuring factories were based.

Here are two world maps. The map above shows the world during 1939 - 1945 and next to this is a mondern day map 2013. These representations are good prompts for instigating discussion within the classroom. You can compare the two, explaining the differences and how each country may have felt due to their location within Europe. Who had the advantage?
